The NL Special is an exceptionally powerful instrument for it’s size. Its strength in volume owes much to it’s side depth. Despite its very comfortable smaller body shape, the physical volume of the resonant chamber gives it an incredible acoustic presence and volume. It’s equally suited to fingerstyle blues, or a flatpick, and is super easy and fun to play, thanks to it’s short 24.25” scale length.

For this limited-edition run of the Pre*War NL Special, we’ve settled on the transition period from the ladder braced, late ‘20s models, into the X-braced ‘30s models, but retaining the transitional, early body shape, with a wider upper bout (the same as a ‘20s L-1), with Mahogany back and sides, torrefied Adirondack spruce top, and the neck joint at the 12th fret.
Our NL Special is an homage to a mish-mash of ideas, never fully realized into one instrument model. With two distinct body shapes, either mahogany, maple, or Brazilian rosewood back and sides; neck joints at the 12th, 13th, or 14th frets; ladder braced or X-braced, pin bridge or floating bridge and multiple scale lengths, what constitutes a “true original” version of this guitar is kind of a Rorschach test of the flat-top guitar picker.
